Basic Home Electrical Repair Class 1 & 2 (Combined)
Session 1: Electrical Repair Basics
Learn the basics of your home’s electrical system in this hands-on class. You’ll go over different types of wires, wire sizes (called “gauges”), and how to use them safely. The instructor will show you how to:
- Strip wire correctly
- Attach wires to outlets, switches, and light fixtures
- Use basic testing tools
Please bring straight and Phillips screwdrivers, long-nose pliers, and wire strippers if you have them.
Session 2: Advanced Electrical Repair
Keep building your skills in this hands-on class! You’ll learn how to safely install light switches (single-pole and 3-way), outlets, and light fixtures. You’ll even wire a light bulb and test the circuit to see how it works. We’ll talk about different types of light bulbs and how to choose the right LED bulb. You’ll also learn about installing ceiling fans and other fixtures.
Please bring your own wire stripper, straight and Phillips screwdrivers, and long-nose pliers if you have them.

Tod has been teaching the Community Education Basic Home repair classes for 14 years. He enjoys being a mentor to the students, helping them improve their skills and gain confidence so they can make basic home repairs themselves.
