Bike Trailside and MaintenanceYouth EnrichmentMany of your bike issues can be solved in this class! Focus will be on identification of bicycle parts, trailside repair, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, chain maintenance, how to repair/replace a tube (flat tire), and how to safety-check your bike. If time allows, you will also learn basic wheel truing, replacing a chain, how to replace brake and shifting cables. Please bring a bike to class - especially one that needs work! Chess Club-SpringChessThis fun and engaging chess class is open to both new and returning students. Each week, students will learn new skills, practice with puzzles, and play games to improve their chess abilities. The winter session is great for advanced beginners and intermediate players who want to get better. We use the “Teach It, Practice It, Play It” method to help students stay on track. Each week includes over 60 lessons and puzzles, plus guided games and friendly tournaments in class. The class fee includes a membership to ChessKid.com for the session (a $49 value), so students can keep learning and playing at home. Child and Babysitting SafetyHealthThis class teaches kids and teens how to be safe and responsible babysitters. It’s based on a program from the American Safety and Health Institute and is approved by the American Pediatrics Association. You’ll learn: How to watch and care for children How to handle behavior in a positive way How to feed and change babies safely What to do in case of an emergency, including basic first aid and fire safety How to keep yourself safe while babysitting During class, you’ll get to practice with dolls, bottles, and diapers. We’ll talk about what to do in case of an emergency, how to use the kitchen safely, how to stay safe online, and how to handle things like sibling arguments or dealing with strangers. Lion King Kids – Osseo Middle SchoolTheatreJoin us this spring for an exciting theater experience with Disney’s The Lion King KIDS! This musical tells the story of Simba and his journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again. Students will explore themes like courage, friendship, and finding who you are. The show includes favorite songs from the Broadway and animated movie, such as “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” “He Lives in You,” and “Hakuna Matata.” This class is great for anyone who loves to sing, dance, and act—or wants to try theater for the first time. Every student will have a role in the show, and no experience is needed. Auditions for lead roles will happen on the first day. Costumes are provided, but students should bring their own base layer. Note: Students in grades 6–8 who do not attend OMS are also welcome to participate. Rehearsals will officially begin at 3 p.m. The program is led by trained theater professionals who create a fun and supportive environment. Students will build confidence, learn teamwork, and develop leadership skills while putting on a fantastic show. Space is limited to 50 participants, and pre-registration is required. Tech rehearsal is on Tuesday, April 28 from 3-5:30 PM at Maple Grove Middle School.
